Career In CAD/CAM/CAE

If you have done graduate or pursuing, you probably remember the engineering drawing classes.

Whether you are a computer science engineer or mechanical engineer, this class is for everyone. But there are few students who have taken interest in this class.

I remember, our drawing class is used to be in the last periods and used to be bunked most of the time.

The definition of drawing is 'Graphical representation of our thoughts and imagination by using paper and pen or pencil. ' and our first-year classes are basically hand drawing. But this is also true that hand drawing is limited to some tools and dimensions.

But these days it becomes very easy. All thanks to the technological advancement in Computer Science.

By using computers, designing and drawing are no longer limited to the number of tools, features, and sizes. In the Computer-aided design (CAD), a lot of tools and features are available that could be used in one click.

Even we don't need to make different views of an object. In just one click, and we have isometric views, front view, top views, or side views.

 Also, it is very easy to learn, just you need is to practice more and more.

Let's understand; How CAD, CAM, and CAE are different from each other.

CAD = Computer-Aided Design

CAE = Computer-Aided Engineering

CAM = Computer Aided Manufacturing

CAD - Computer-Aided Design

Computer-aided design (CAD) is the use of computers (or workstations) to aid in the creation, modification, analysis, or optimization of a design. It includes creating 2D sketches, 3D models and their rendering, assembly of different parts, and drafting. These are also known as 3D modeling.

CAM - Computer-Aided Manufacturing

Computer-aided manufacturing typically uses software to translate drawings and data into detailed instructions that can drive some sort of automated tool. So it deals with automated machining processes like CNC and creating a mold for the casting.

CAE - Computer-Aided Engineering

Computer-aided engineering (CAE) is the use of computer software to simulate performance by using Finite Element Method in order to improve product designs or assist in the resolution of engineering problems for a wide range of industries. This includes simulation, validation, and optimization of products, processes, and manufacturing tools.

There is a lot of CAD/CAM/CAE software available in the market. Every software has some unique feature and accordingly use.

Examples- Some Popular CAD Software
